Australian Indigenous Physiologists Association

Scenario:

  • Australian Indigenous Physiologists Association delivers cultural training for Australian Psychological Society and they approached Guwaali to develop and deliver a local Aboriginal Cultural, History and Connecting with Communities’ session.

Solution:

  • Guwaali designed, developed and delivers a 1 hour Aboriginal Cultural and History presentation component which focuses on local History, Organisations, Culture and Connecting with Communities’. This session supplements, complements and reinforces the other content delivered by AIPA. The focus is the transition of Physiologist’s practices to culturally safe environments, building a solid foundation on cultural understanding for staff and the encouragement to continue their journey of self-development.

 

•	Inner West Sydney Medicare Local

Scenario:

  • Inner West Sydney Medicare Local started conducting evening Cultural Awareness Training for General Practitioners and their staff in 2011, they approached Guwaali to develop and deliver a local Aboriginal Cultural, History and connecting with communities’ session.

Solution:

  • Guwaali designed, developed and delivers a 45 minute Aboriginal Cultural and History presentation component which focuses on local History, Organisations, Culture and Connecting with Communities’. This session supplements, complements and reinforces the other content delivered by Inner West Sydney Medicare Local and the other Aboriginal presenters. The focus is the transition of General Practices to culturally safe environments, building a solid foundation on cultural understanding for staff and the encouragement to continue their journey of self-development.

 

Tourism NSW

 

 

 

Scenario:

  • Oprah's Ultimate Australian Adventure was coming to Australia ending in Sydney December 2010, with and official Welcome to Australia function preceding the Opera House shows. On behalf of Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council I contacted NSW Government to ensure that Cultural protocols were acknowledged and respected with an official Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony and Cultural performance for Ms Winfrey and her guests.

Solution:

  • Guwaali liaised between Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council, NSW Industry & Investment, NSW Tourism, Harpo and Ogilvy & Mather to ensure that Cultural protocols were acknowledged and respected, so Oprah's Ultimate Australian Adventure guests had, an official Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony and Cultural performance at the Premier's Welcome Party on Saturday, 11 December, 2010. This also doubled as the official Welcome to Australia function.

 

Interrelate

 

 

Scenario:

  • Interrelate Family Centres required Cross Cultural training for their Reconciliation Action Plan Steering committee as they were formulating and implementing their inaugural RAP.

Solution:

  • Guwaali conducted full days Cross Cultural Training incorporating perspectives from two Aboriginal Interrelate staff members into the content and context, due to their internal understanding of Interrelate. One Aboriginal staff member had their own segment, strategically incorporated into the schedule, and the morning schedule was built around this segment.

 

Perpetual

 

 

Scenario:

  • Perpetual where in the process of creating their inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan. Perpetual wanted to celebrate NAIDOC week for the first time around learning about Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples, history, traditions and culture, while staff being time poor due to the begining of the new financial year.

Solution:

  • Guwaali ran its ‘A Taste of Culture’ format, short talks, storytelling, backed by a deadly cultural performance.

 

2013 Australian Society for Intellectual Disability (ASID) Conference ‘Our Time’

 

 

Scenario:

  • Sunshine was coordinating the 2013 Australian Society for Intellectual Disability (ASID) Conference ‘Our Time’. The 2012 conference was held in New Zealand with a Maori performance at the conference. Required was an Aboriginal cultural performance that was more than a Yidaki (Didgeridoo) performance that would be educational and inclusive as they had delegates from not just Australia and New Zealand but from around the world, ASID wanted to showcase Aboriginal culture and traditions being the oldest living culture and civilization..

Solution:

  • Guwaali recommended Brendan, he is a professional world class Yidaki performer, who has travelled the world playing the yidaki; Brendan also is an engaging storyteller, weaving Cultural education into stories and the Yidaki performance, using humor and his easy nature that resonates with all.
